kinky blow out hair for work

The natural hair movement of recent years has inspired Black women to embrace their kinks and coils in their everyday life but, when it came to the workplace, many sistas were stuck with the unfortunate choice between embracing their kinks and keeping their jobs. Especially if they found themselves working in front of a camera.

But according to the fabulous "TVNewsLady", Sia Nyorkor, things have changed for the better! We chatted with Sia, who was recently featured by fashion line Eloquii, about work, style and, of course, hair!

Hi Sia! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Sia Nyorkor also known as "TVNewsLady" on social media.  I'm a television news reporter currently working for the CBS affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio.

What is your hair type and which of our textures are you currently wearing?

I'm a 4C, very kinky haired gal!  My own natural hair is thick and falls past my shoulders.  I keep it healthy by wearing KinkyCurlyYaki's extensions in the "Kinky Blow Out" texture (note: Sia is wearing two bundles of 14" Kinky Blowout).

Let me tell you, it matches my own hair and blends flawlessly!  This way, I keep my natural hair protected and no one knows the difference!  People are always shocked when I reveal I'm wearing extensions.  I have it colored to give it some glamour.  Right now, I'm rockin' a Burgundy Brown with chunks of color flowing through.

Do you think a change in hairstyle can change an outfit?

I definitely think a hairstyle can change an outfit!  When I'm feeling relaxed and carefree, I love my curls.  When I want a polished look, I'll wear my hair straight. When I want to look sophisticated, I'll sweep it to the side in a messy knot.

Do you have any style tips for ladies looking into entering the corporate world?

Things are evolving in the Television News industry,  It used to be you had to have a relaxed, straight bob to be on the air. Now on televisions all over the US, you see African-American women wearing diverse styles: twists, curls, locs, wigs, weaves, extensions.  It has been a journey for me but I've found that it's important for me to be my most authentic self and that's me wearing natural hair.

People stop me out in the field when I'm reporting and ask me about my hair. I love telling them about KinkyCurlyYaki hair and because I'm on television daily, I'm visible.  I get so many compliments on my hair and it's thanks to KinkyCurlyYaki!

Thanks Sia, your tips are so helpful and you look amazing! To read more about Sia and how she rose up the ranks of reporting, read her feature on Eloquii. Are you as obsessed with Sia as we are? Follow her on Twitter!
