Natural and afro-textured hair textures are unique in their own right. Naturals with type 4C hair have tightly curled or coiled hair that may not have a distinctive curl pattern. When the hair is blow-dried it can be stretched to its full length allowing versatility in styling options. But not every natural wants to use heat on their hair or may not have the length to achieve certain hairstyles.

Our My Straight Coarse™ is a great option for naturals with 4C hair who want to protective style with hair extensions that closely resemble their own natural hair textures. Caring for your Kinky Blow Out hair extensions are just as easy to care for as your own natural hair. Our hair is steam processed and designed to be worn in its natural state to increase the longevity of the hair and keep your hair looking flawless. With the proper care, your Kinky Blow Out hair will last you for a very long time. In this guide we touch on how to care for your blow out hair extensions as well as touch on ways to style them.

How to Wash Kinky Blowout Hair

The key to the longevity of your Kinky Blow Out hair extensions is to refrain from regular washing. Washing the hair regularly will strip the moisture from the hair and dry it out quickly making the hair look worn, dull, or damaged over time. Unlike, your natural tresses, remember that natural hair extensions rely on you to give it the moisture and nourishment it needs to thrive.

Refrain from using excessive hair products and heavy oils or butters to minimize product build-up and the need to regularly shampoo the hair. Consider creating your own homemade leave-in conditioner. If you must use a variety of hair products it is best to use a sulfate-free shampoo to cleanse the hair and remove build-up without drying out your Kinky Blow Out hair extensions. Because the hair is processed, you can dilute your shampoo and wash the hair in a downward motion. Avoid vigorous rubbing and apply shampoo from the weft to the ends of the hair to avoid tangles.

How to Condition My Straight Coarse™ Hair

Conditioning your Kinky Blowout hair is vital to ensure your hair lasts for many years to come. Just like you apply conditioner to your own hair, your My Straight Coarse™ will also need the same treatment, if not more. The nourishment and softening power of conditioners will keep your hair soft and free from tangles.

One of the biggest challenges of maintaining natural hair extensions is avoiding shedding and tangles. Conditioning your kinky blowout hair is a simply way to keep the hair manageable as well as reducing shedding.

Once your hair has been cleansed, apply a generous amount of conditioner to your Kinky Blow Out Hair and use a wide-tooth comb to evenly distribute the conditioner through the hair strands. You can also use a deep conditioner every 2-3 weeks just like you would your own natural hair. The conditioner can remain on the hair from up to 15 minutes before rinsing. Lay the hair flat across a towel and allow them to air dry before styling.

How to Style Blowout Extensions

After allowing your Kinky Blow Out extensions to dry naturally it is recommended that you add a light oil such as almond or argon oil followed by an anti-frizz serum to allow your natural hair to lay smooth. Although our blow-out textures are designed to be worn in their original texture, you can also add heat or curl the hair using perm rods or flexi rods. Wand curls also look fabulous on our kinky blow out textures. The hair can be styled using heat and non-heat methods, however, adding too much heat to the hair or daily flat ironing can alter the texture of the hair.

Twist or braid the hair at night for a beautiful, voluminous twist-out or braid-out style that will be sure to turn heads. When heat styling, be sure to use a thermal protectant to prevent heat damage. Avoid hair styling products that contain drying alcohols, heavy oils or butters, and bleaching chemicals which can permanently damage or alter the texture of your Kinky blow out hair.

Prior to curling your Kinky Blow Out hair we recommend that you consider one of our hair types that feature a curl pattern you may want to explore such as our My Curls™ Collection or My Coils™ Collection

Caring for Your Kinky Blow Out Extensions

It is important to keep your hair fresh and moisturized. To keep your My Straight Coarse™ Blow Out hair refreshed lightly mist the hair daily with a moisturizing leave-in conditioner or a mixture of water and your favorite conditioner. Use your fingers to detangle the hair when necessary and remove any snags.

Although our kinky hair extensions can be cut, colored, bleached an styled to your liking keep in mind that your hair extensions will require more moisture than it did prior the color treatment. You can keep the hair protected at night by sleeping in a satin bonnet, pillowcase, or head scarf to avoid friction from rubbing against your linens.

Once your My Straight Coarse™ hair has been installed it’s important not to neglect your own hair. If you are having the hair installed as a sew-in, be sure that your stylist doesn’t braid or pull your natural hair too tightly to avoid damage, breakage, and thinning hair. You can moisturize your scalp using light oils that won’t weigh down your hair or cause build-up on your hair extensions. Many women make the mistake of forgetting to care for their own hair while protective styling with natural hair extensions. But maintaining your own hair is vital to the growth and overall health of your natural hair.

Kinky hair textures are more delicate than any other hair texture. The tight curls and coils of kinky hair textures mean that the hair is extremely dense and does not retain as much moisture as needed. It is up to you to ensure that your kinky hair extensions remain soft and moisturized to stretch the lifespan of your hair.
